About Us
Who We Are
The Habitat Project is a response to personal disquiet about the wretched state of Britain’s natural environment. Britain is one of the most wildlife depleted countries on Earth. [IUCN]
Our Mission is to increase the quantity and quality of native terrestrial habitat in the SW of England, in partnership with land owners and tenants, investors and others. In doing so we shall support nature friendly farming methods and the rural economy,
Chris Swinburn MCIEEM, BSc Env Mngt, Managing Director
Over 20 years in parks management and horticulture and a lifelong wildlife enthusiast, Chris runs landscaping and playground design companies in Bristol. Although this work provides opportunities for creating habitats on the garden scale, Chris wants to effect greater change. He is retraining in ecology.

We'll help you every step of the way to creating your new habitat. We can...
- Survey and assess the current habitat value of your land in relation to overall land-management.
- Provide a Habitat Plan detailing opportunities, challenges and costs to land use and behavioural changes.
- Produce detailed woodland/wetland/grassland etc creation plans. Also access, fencing, planning compliance.
- Signpost resources and manage funding applications.
- Enrol your project on the Woodland Carbon Code.
- Biodiversity Net Gain hosting.
- Help you find project partners such as neighbouring landholders, community land trusts, investors.
- Supply teams skilled in tree planting and care, fencing and access, woodland management, wetland and biodiverse grassland creation and on-going maintenance.
Further Information
We have been developing links with NGOs involved in ecological restoration, nature friendly farming and the like. We can keep you appraised of new opportunities, policies and processes in this field.
